Making communities safer by reducing re-offending. Welcome to York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust National Probation Service for England and Wales

Working in Partnership

York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust works with a range of partners to achieve our aims to protect the public, reduce re-offending and support the victims of crime.

As core members of the North Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board we work with other criminal justice agencies to improve the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in bringing offenders to justice and in reducing offending.

We have strong links with the police in operating Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) to manage dangerous offenders and in targeting our work on the most prolific offenders in the community.

We work with local agencies on the Crime and Disorder Partnerships with the aim of reducing crime and making local communities safer. Unpaid work undertaken by offenders as a sentence of the court can provide reparation to local communities and help enhance the environment and improve safety.

York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust works closely with education and skills providers throughout the Area to improve the basic skills of offenders and increase the chances of them obtaining a job, the biggest factor in helping someone stop offending. Work undertaken by voluntary agencies is integral to the services we provide to offenders. Funding of these agencies helps us to deliver additional support to offenders in their efforts to stop offending. Mentoring, advice on finance and debt, support in finding work all contribute to the successful rehabilitation of offenders.
