Our approach to Diversity

We aim to create an environment in which differences are recognised and where equality is integrated into all of our work ensuring we meet the needs of offenders, victims and staff.

Our Diversity team offer support and guidance as well as coordinating work around our: Single Equality Scheme; Anti Harassment Advisor Network; Staff support groups; Interpreting and translation services.

Single Equality Scheme

We are proud to have developed our Single Equality Scheme which can be viewed by clicking on the link on the right hand side.

NYPB’s Diversity Group

The Chief Officer chairs quarterly diversity group meetings. These are attended by two Board members with responsibility for diversity as well as representatives of staff groups and diversity leads from operational teams. This group monitors progress against the Single Equality Scheme Action plan and reports to the Board.

Anti Harassment and Bullying

We believe everyone has the right to be treated with respect and dignity at work. North Yorkshire Probation will not tolerate any kind of harassment or bullying. An Anti Bullying and Harassment Procedure is in place to ensure that everyone understands what constitutes harassment and bullying and how it will be dealt with when it occurs. The procedure is intended to cover incidents experienced by employees of North Yorkshire Probation. Offenders, victims and their families or friends can use the Complaints Procedure to resolve issues of harassment or bullying. There are specially trained Anti Bullying and Harassment Advisors based in offices throughout the area, who staff can call on for advice and support. .
