Working hard to make amends
Every year, across the country, local communities benefit from over five million hours of compulsory unpaid work performed by offenders under the supervision of the National Probation Service. Last year alone in North Yorkshire, offenders completed over 85,000 of unpaid labour supporting local projects and initiatives.
We can’t do this without your help! We need to know about projects you think we could be working on
We actively encourage the public, faith groups, local businesses, voluntary groups, crime reduction partnerships and local authorities to contact us to nominate projects that you would like to see us involved in – ones that you believe will make a real difference to our communities. Both large and small projects are considered and can be for charitable organisations as well as working for individuals.
Projects must meet the following criteria:
- it must benefit the local community
- it must not take paid work away from others
- it must be worthwhile, constructive and give offenders new skills
- offenders must be seen to be making amends by putting something back into the community
