The purpose of the York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust Board is to ensure that the organisation delivers locally against the aims and priorities of the NOMS Agency, including the regional Director of Offender Management (DOM) and the Ministry of Justice.

The Trust Board is the employer of the staff of the Trust, and is responsible for agreeing an annual plan to assist staff in delivering against national, regional and local objectives within a nationally determined budget.

The Board consists of a number of non-executive members. The Chief Executive is also a member. It meets approximately every six weeks and members of the public are welcome to attend, but are not allowed to speak unless invited to.

The Chair and Trust Board members are appointed by the Secretary of State within the Ministry of Justice and usually serve for between 3 and 6 years, following a competitive appointment system.
