Pete Brown is the Chief Executive for York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust.

He is currently Chair of the North Yorkshire MAPPA Strategic Management Board, Deputy Chair of North Yorkshire Local Criminal Justice Board and plays a national role on NOMS Specification Benchmarking and Costing project. On behalf of the Probation Trusts in Yorkshire and Humberside, Pete leads on Performance, Quality and Information Technology.

Pete was educated in Liverpool and has an Honours degree in Modern History and Politics. He obtained his Certificate in Qualification for Social Work from University College, Cardiff in 1980. He also has a Diploma in Criminal Justice Management from Hull University.

Prior to working in probation, Pete was employed by Merseyside County Council as a trainee accountant and by Stonham Housing Association as a Deputy Hostel Warden. He joined South East London Probation Service in 1980 as a Probation Officer before moving north to work in Humberside in 1984.

Pete became an Assistant Chief Officer in Humberside in 1999 and worked in both operational and support team roles. He became Chief Officer in Northamptonshire in April 2005; moving to his current post here in North Yorkshire in October 2006.
